The following steps are used by me to diagnose in cases of sports injuries:
– Physical examination: To evaluate the ongoing status & movement.
– Medical history: To have a detailed knowhow of the background of your injury & its reason
– Imaging Tests: Depending on the individual case an X-Ray, MRI Scan, CT Scan or Ultrasound is suggested to see inside & evaluate the damage inside your body & it’s extent.

What to expect

Sports injuries are more common in younger adults, teens & children. A substantial number of this age group are injured each year as part of such organised group sports in every year. In this group Contact sports like football, baseball, cricket account for a substantial number of injuries unlike non contact sports like swimming & running. The number of males has been found to be significantly higher as per a recent study. In their effort to push the limits of performance, injuries happen very frequently especially in children & teenagers. Many injuries like tendonitis or stress fractures if left untreated can develop into serious injuries at a later stage of life. Some of the most common areas affected are: Achilles tendon, Ankle, elbow, Head, Knee & Shoulder.

Your treatment depends on your condition & severity. Depending upon your history, physical examination & based on your scans or other reports, a personalised treatment schedule is decided which is the best fit for your condition. Accordingly the same is discussed with you or your Attendent sharing the results to expect, time & the economic factors to help you get the best possible world class treatment.

When Can You Return to Normalcy

Once your injury is treated, this is followed by Physical Therapy for Rehabilitation of your body so you can return to your normal active & energetic routines at the earliest. Our effort is always made with an intention to me as minimally invasive as possible & give you fast results so as back to what you love doing best in the sports of your choice. Several patients of Sports Injuries have been treated by us & it gives us great happiness to see them excelling in their fields once again.

How I treat it

Treatment is individualised based on the symptoms, the degree of disability and the demands of the patient’s lifestyle. It is solely dependent on your condition, symptoms and what exactly is causing your knee pain. I give tips on exercise modification and advocate a holistic approach to handle your knee related issues; treatments include therapy and lifestyle changes, injections, surgery and alternative medicine.

First line to treatment

I feel that Lifestyle changes are extremely helpful; avoiding certain high impact exercises, maintaining correct posture, wearing appropriate footwear, and more. You may be surprised to learn that several patients are able to fix their knee related issues with simple stretching exercises. Additionally, I recommend physical therapy for strengthening the muscles and enhancing joint stability. I believe in holistic approach to injury and combination of movement, stretching, targeted deep tissue massage and manipulation of a person’s muscles and joints helps to improve function, relieve pain and aid recovery.

    Injection

At times, I may recommend an injection into or around your joint. A few common injections are Corticosteroids, Hyaluronic acid and Platelet-rich plasma (PRP). In some situations, injections inside joints or around tendons & ligaments are used. To optimise their effectiveness these injections are administered by our radiologist, under ultrasound guidance. This ensure the Durg is delivered at the targeted area.

    Surgery

There is an optimal time for every surgical procedure. Some have to be carried out early and others can be planned. I guide you through the pros & the cons of surgery.

The majority of surgeries carried out are minimally invasive, arthroscopic procedures for treating problems of the patella, meniscus, cartilage & ligaments. Complex surgeries for failed previous surgeries (revision) and where multiple ligaments are damaged and re-alignment surgeries that can prolong the life of the natural knee are also done by me regularly
