How do I evaluate?

Hip replacement patient can sit cross legged , drive cycle and car , easily climb stairs and run as well .

Newer designs of hip implants give more stable hip motion and increase longevity of implants.

If bone quality is good often uncemented implants are preferred as they provide excellent long term implant survival .

Almost all patients walk in 24 hours with walking aid and with out any support in 4 weeks .

Why does the meniscus need to be repaired?

Meniscus is shock absorber of knee and injury to it causes excessive loads on knee bone and friction . If the torn part of meniscus is removed it causes abnormal joint loading and thus early joint degeneration

How to prevent meniscus tear injury?

It is important to perform muscle strengthening exercises and Core balancing exercises so as to prepare the knee for sudden jerks and twists.

How do I repair the meniscus tear?

Meniscus repair is technically demanding procedure which restores the knee cushion thus giving knee normal surface. I use various techniques – All Inside, Inside out and Outside in depending on tear locations. I use special sutures, devices and implants to repair the meniscus back.

Rehabilitation after meniscus tear

Meniscus healing is slow and needs protection in post operative period. Weight bearing is restricted on operated leg for few days though walking is allowed in 24 hours but with walker support . Knee bending exercises are initially slowly started and in few days increased. Meniscus tears heal by 6-8 weeks and then aggressive exercises are restarted to get strength back
